5€ donation

 (DLCI charity fund three charities every year, which are nominated - and more importantly voted for - by our members. This year's animal charity was Twilight, which looks after elderly dogs, and they received 1500 euros, as will the other two charities)

 There will be an opportunity to meet a SPA dog around the walk which will be available for adoption and easily seen by its adoption vest.

Distance = 5.7km

Duration = 2hrs

Do not forget your binoculars for this walk around the lake of Ganee, where you will be able to see the flora and fauna including mallard, whistling and teal ducks and wild orchids.

This lake was built in 1988, can hold 1.5 million m3 of water and is on a plot of 44ha.

The water is 11.5m deep at its maximum.

The Ganee reservoir is one of several that serve the Dropt valley area.

Their aim is to maintain enough water for agricultural irrigation, to reduce the effects of flooding and to provide a habitat for migratory birds.

Several projects have been undertaken, notably building nests for ducks to shelter them in the breeding season.

Numerous wild orchid varieties can be seen around the reservoir and the adjacent countryside. Only pick them with your eyes or a photo lense though.

Dovecotes, chateaux, houses of character and the small church of Calviac can be seen on this walk which offers numerous advantage points for taking in these spectacular views
